Nõ + Ics – M Type Alpha

Ennio Mazzon’s Ripples Recordings label has been releasing some quality ambient and experimental music over the last couple of years now. Mostly exploring a more abstract territory, the releases combine minimal instrumental works with fieldrecordings and improvisations. Ripples’ latest release is no exception to this rule.
Nõ + Ics’ “M Type Alpha” is a single track venturing on the edges of silence, improvised noise and industrial like sound-loops. Oscillating between abrasive noise moments, hollow drones and meditative rhythms, M Type Alpha works as much as a background soundtrack as it works as an immersive headphone journey. Although the record is by no means on the beautiful side of experimental music, but still manages to capture the beauty of the more noisy spectrum. Unfortunately “M Type Alpha” could have been a little more powerful and harsh at times to add a little more dynamic progression – there are parts where it seems to flow a little bit too much on the pretty side of the spectrum. In the end this just boils down to personal preference and Nõ + Ics’ “M Type Alpha” is a beautifully crafted and well executed journey nonetheless.
